I'm getting an Apple Watch
Planted August 05, 2026
I have been using a Huawei smart watch for a few years now. I haven’t minded it but it hasn’t properly integrated with any of my other tech for a while. When I got the watch new, I was still an Android user and the watch worked fine. But, for better or worse, I came back to iPhone and the watch became less useful.
I was inspired by Matt Birch’s micro apps and thought about developing an app for my Huawei watch but it’s not possible and Apple doesn’t allow the watch to access anything useful from the phone.
So, after a bit of back and forth, I’ve decided to give the Apple Watch a try. My son is horrified that I’ve now fully committed to the Apple ecosystem. He’s a PC and Android guy and hates that the final domino in my tech stack is falling.
The plan is to enjoy and explore the app for a while and then to start experimenting with building for it. Not quite sure what that is going to look like yet but I’m excited to dive in.
My son is slightly mollified that he now has my old watch though.
